PRP or Laser Peel. Which one is better for my skin?

There are a lot of different treatments on the market today to help individuals with scarring or wrinkles due to the natural aging process. If you are tired of looking in the mirror and seeing dull skin looking back at you, it is a relief to know that there is help available. The same goes if you have any marks on your skin that are knocking your confidence.

A lot of people assume that the only treatments for their skin are fillers, which use synthetic substances to even out the skin, but this is not the case. There are safer and more powerful solutions available, such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (ORO), which involves using your natural biology to stimulate collagen and boost your skin’s appearance.

Another option is to have a laser peel, which is also known as laser resurfacing. This treatment can help with skin irregularities, such as acne scars and blemishes, as well as reducing facial wrinkles.

But which treatment is right for you? What are the main differences between both options? Read on to discover everything you need to know.

Understanding laser peel treatment

Let’s begin by explaining what laser peel treatment is. This is a treatment that reduces the appearance of skin irregularities and facial wrinkles. The technique involves using concentrated and short pulsating beams of light to remove the skin layer-by-layer. You may also hear this referred to as laser vaporization, laser peel, or lasabrasion.

Is this treatment right for you?

This treatment is ideal should you have fine lines or wrinkles on your forehead, mouth, or around your eyes. It is also a good choice for those who have non-responsive skin after having a facelift or shallow scars that have come from acne.

You may not be a candidate for this treatment if you have very dark skin, acne, or stretch marks. However, if this is the case, there is no need to worry, as there are still plenty of other treatment options available for you, and we will discuss one of them next.

How does a laser peel work?

There are two different types of lasers that are often used as part of this treatment: erbium laser resurfacing and CO2 laser resurfacing. The former method is designed to remove moderately deep wrinkles and lines and surface-level lines. CO2 laser resurfacing, on the other hand, can be used to treat a number of different skin problems. This includes the likes of enlarged oil glands on the nose, warts, scars, and wrinkles.

With CO2 laser resurfacing, which you may sometimes see referred to as fractionated CO2, very short pulsed light energy is used. This is delivered to the skin in a scanning pattern so that thin skin layers can be removed with minimal heat damage. Recovery from this procedure typically takes around two weeks.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Now that you know about laser peel treatments, we are going to take a look at one of the most exciting and revolutionary treatments out there at the moment, and this is PRP. what makes PRP so special is that it involves regenerative medicine, meaning you use your own platelets to rejuvenate your skin. This means that you are not putting anything into your body that does not already naturally occur in it, to begin with.

For those who are unaware, platelets are simply blood cells that have the primary purpose of repairing cells and blood vessels that have become damaged in the body, as well as stopping bleeding. Platelets also contain growth factors that help to activate and rejuvenate your cells. This is why they are such an effective choice when it comes to skin rejuvenation.

The benefits of getting PRP

There are a lot of different benefits that are associated with getting PRP treatment. This includes the fact that it is very quick. In fact, it only takes around 20 minutes for this procedure to be carried out. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about booking lots of time off work or your treatment getting in the way of your vacation in the United States.

Another benefit associated with this treatment is the fact that it can help with so many different conditions. It slows down the sign of aging, as well as regenerating damaged skin, repairing skin, and helping you to get your confidence back. Some of the things that PRP can assist with include reducing acne scarring, repairing Crow’s feet, treating mild collagen, toning and tightening the skin, and lowering the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

What to expect from PRP

During this procedure, blood will be drawn from the patient. It will then be spun around in a centrifuge for six minutes. This is done to separate the blood so that only the platelet-rich plasma can be used during the process. This will then be re-injected into the target areas. Of course, this procedure will be carried out by an experienced and trained professional and they will ensure that you are fully aware of the process entailed before you go ahead with PRP. There is no risk of an allergic reaction or any side effects because PRP involves using your own blood.

Who is PRP suitable for?

This treatment is ideal for anyone who is seeking a natural approach in reducing any fine wrinkles and facial lines they have, as well as those who want to make subtle changes to the texture of their skin. If you have had previous work done on your skin, for example, facial surgery or Botox injections, you will still be able to have PRP treatment.

Which one is better for you?

Ultimately, we recommend speaking with your trusted plastic surgeon to help guide you through the decision making process. While PRP facials are an interesting and a growing trend, laser peels have been around much longer and have the same or better results.
