What’s behind the boom of plastic surgery during Covid-19?

For reasons other than the endless weeks spent at home staring at ourselves or too many Zoom meetings, more and more people have been getting plastic surgery, even more since March of 2020. Once it was determined safe to get elective procedures, we’ve been seeing more patients finally getting a cosmetic procedure to look and feel better, and that is definitely a good sign.

After talking to our patients, we can now share the top reasons why plastic surgery experienced a boom during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the time of the post in 2020, you can see there’s a nice trend across the USA for people searching for “plastic surgeon near me”.

People have more time.

Having extra time is a good thing! There’s more to it than just plenty of free time at home. Having more time is an advantage for plastic surgery, even before you get a procedure done. Having some extra time can help us remember to do a self-check, how we feel, and why. We realized that patients were developing more self-awareness during this time, which helps them evaluate their life, their self-esteem, how they feel, and how they look. This has led to patients who are 100% confident with themselves and their decision to get cosmetic surgery.

Our favorite thing about having extra time is that patients can do their research: interview surgeons, compare facilities, read about different surgeries, evaluate their pros & cons, costs, etc. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we love patients who do their homework, who have researched us, verified our surgeon’s sterling credentials, and have specific questions they’d like answered before committing to a procedure. If there is one vital thing to do before having plastic surgery is researching the surgeon and the clinic you’re going to; this will only ensure your well-being and guarantee successful results.

#WFH.

Working from home has given thousands of patients the possibility to recover from home with more ease and without missing so much work. Not only are people now having precious time to decompress, slow down, and take care of themselves, but they also have the perfect opportunity to stay at home while recovering from a surgical procedure. Nothing beats the comfort of being at home!

Self-care.

If living through this pandemic has taught us anything is that we really need to take care of ourselves. Self-care matters! Here at VIDA, we have a holistic approach to self-care: a continuous practice of taking care of our body, mind, and soul. Sometimes that means turning off your phone and enjoying a glass of wine in your pj’s, and sometimes it means getting rid of the stubborn fat in your midsection. After becoming more in tune with ways they can take care of themselves, some people made the decision of getting a cosmetic procedure that will make them look and feel amazing.

Becoming our healthiest selves.

Being hyper-aware of how important our well-being is has inspired us to be healthier: eat whole foods, lose weight, start an exercise routine, etc. Many patients have taken advantage of this! Being healthy before and after having plastic surgery can make a massive difference in the results you’ll get and how easy your recovery can be. Most of our patients also decided that it was time to get some surgical help to perfectly tone and shape what they haven’t been able to do with diet and exercise.

Money destined for vacations or eating out can be repurposed.

State of the art operating room

We talked to some patients who decided to invest in themselves once they realized that that cruise to the Bahamas or that long-awaited trip to Europe would have to wait several months. Without the expenses of traveling or simple things that add up, such as eating out, buying clothes for the office, or paying for gas and tolls, many were finally able to fund the surgery they had always wanted.

If plastic surgery is something you’ve been thinking about, this might be the best time to do it!
