Is It Time for a Face & Neck Lift? | VIDA

Are You Ready for a Facelift?

When you think about a facelift patient, what do you see? An old person with extremely wrinkly skin? You’d be surprised that men and women as young as 35 are getting face and neck lifts alongside patients well into their 70s. If having facial rejuvenation surgery in your 30s sounds odd, it’s probably because a lot of people often associate getting a facelift with reaching a certain age and an elderly look: deep bags under your eyes, wide wrinkles in your forehead, saggy skin, and protruding jowls. The reality is that age has little to do with knowing when to get a facelift. The conditions under which you can benefit from facial rejuvenation surgery are more complex than that. It helps to understand what a Facelift can and cannot do, so you realize age isn’t necessarily a determining factor.

What is a Facelift?

There is a lot of information about Facelifts, which can be confusing. With this short guide, we’ll help you understand what a Facelift is and what it can do to help your appearance. We will also talk about some of the myths and misconceptions surrounding this popular facial rejuvenation surgery.

A Facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that effectively vanishes and corrects signs of aging in your face. When combined with a neck lift, you can have a younger look on both your face and neck.

A Facelift can make you look like a younger version of yourself, you may look up to 5 to 10 years younger after surgery.

A Facelift is not a surgery that will radically change your facial features. On the contrary, at the hands of a board-certified plastic surgeon, facial rejuvenation surgery will enhance your natural features without modifying them. It will just bring out a better version of yourself.

A Facelift cannot improve skin that has extensive sun damage or blemishes.

A Facelift will not make a 60-year-old person look 25 again. The surgery does turn back the clock, but it can improve your appearance in a more subtle way that is both natural and flattering.

Is there an average age for a facelift?

There is not an ideal age for facelift patients, so if you are considering one, you shouldn’t feel like you’re too young or too old.

Instead of focusing on the right age to get a facelift, you should think about the right combination of factors. There are certain things that can influence your readiness for a facelift, such as:
Genetics, like the color of your skin and your tendency to develop wrinkles and loose skin. Overall skin health, elasticity, and fullness. Lifestyle factors such as smoking, drinking, and sun exposure; since your genes, lifestyle and aesthetic expectations are completely unique.
If the place where you live has extreme weather.

Additionally, when we asked our doctors about the right age for a facelift, they mentioned that as soon as you start thinking about it, you shouldn’t wait too long. It’s better to be on the “younger” side for a facelift because younger skin will be healthier and have more elasticity, which will help the surgeon achieve the best results.

While facelift surgery does not stop the aging process, it does help you age with more grace and less visible signs. So, the healthier your skin is at the time of surgery, the better and longer-lasting benefits you’ll receive.

When to get a facelift

As we explained, knowing when to get a facelift has more to do with the aging signs you experience and your desired results. Some of the signs of aging that can help determine if you’ve reached the right time for facial rejuvenation surgery are:

  • Deep furrows and folds of skin.
  • Lax skin.
  • Sagging jowls.
  • Loose facial and neck muscles.
  • Neckbands.

These and other “advanced” signs of aging are the ones that will indicate if you would benefit from a face and neck lift. The lifestyle you have (or had) and genetics can influence if you develop signs of aging in your late 30’s or your early 60s, which is why the “perfect age” for a facelift varies for everyone.

Facial Rejuvenation options

If you are not quite ready for a facelift, there are facial rejuvenation alternatives that your surgeon can perform.

Mini Facelift

Younger patients often find that a mini facelift is exactly what they need. This “simplified” version addresses the lower portion of the face, usually where wrinkles and saggy skin appear first. A mini facelift has a shorter recovery time and is a great alternative to refresh your look where you need it.

Dermal fillers

Fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are very effective in correcting loss of volume and elasticity, improving your facial contours. As we age, our skin starts losing collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin, all responsible for giving our skin tone and elasticity. Dermal fillers replenish them.

Botox and Dysport

Injectable muscle relaxers are ideal to decrease wrinkles and frown lines. Your surgeon can inject the substance in strategic places in order to smooth and soften lines and wrinkles.

Laser skin resurfacing

A variety of laser treatments, like Dermablate, can be applied directly to your skin in order to boost collagen production and disappear conditions such as scars, sun spots, and discoloration.
