How about we begin by explaining the onset of menopause?

Menopause typically begins around the age of 45-55 when a woman’s menstrual cycle is absent for 12 consecutive months. Until then, a woman can still describe herself as menopausal. In some cases the symptoms of menopause can be present as early as 38 years old.

The “Classic” symptoms of Menopause include:

  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Problems controlling urination
  • Vaginal laxity (wide or distended vagina)

Vaginal Dryness

One of the great myths about menopause is that the woman’s libido is affected. The libido or sexual desire remains almost the same, but the problem is that sexual intercourse is uncomfortable, painful, or not enjoyable due to the lack of lubrication. Because of discomfort due to dryness, the idea of having sex is not as attractive. Therefore, many women decide not to have sex as a solution to the problem. But here is a better solution to the problem: eliminate the pain and improve lubrication, so sex can be enjoyable again.

Uncomfortable Urinary Incontinence

As if the idea of urinary incontinence was not bad enough, the reasons for it can be worrying. The lack of estrogen that accompanies menopause can cause tissues to break down, causing the turgor of the skin to be lost, and allowing gravity to affect areas such as the breasts, the cheeks, the eyelids, the bladder, and the urethra. With this, the problem of uncontrollable urination becomes worse and more exhausting. If you can avoid or treat your incontinence, surely your confidence would prove.

Vaginal Laxity or “Wide” Vagina

Now let’s talk about vaginal laxity. Thinking of a vagina as wide is not surprising, especially if you have had a history of even one vaginal birth. But why is the vagina never the same after a vaginal delivery? During a vaginal birth, the baby has to clear the way to be able to exit, and pushes everything it can (such as the urethra, vagina, anus, and muscles) to the sides. Some regions break, others tear, or the obstetrician makes a cut in the genital area (episiotomy) to ease the birth of the baby. Considering these reasons and many others, giving birth painful and several genital structures are injured. After delivery, doctors repair the damage with surgical skill and sutures, and suggest resting for 40 days for the vagina to recover. But the truth is, the vagina never remains the same. In addition to vaginal birth, let’s not forget that age has its affect. However, there are different types of solutions for these symptoms, such as the non-invasive thermal technology of the Erbium-Laser “Juliet”, available at CosMed Clinic.

What does the Erbium-Laser “Juliet” do and how does it manage to restore vaginal function?

The thermal energy pulses just below the vaginal mucus, breaking the type 1 collagen fibers (old collagen) that causes the walls of the vagina to feel rigid, painful, and non-functional. The same thermal energy stimulates the generation of type 3 and type 4 collagen that is more elastic and functional.

Another benefit of the “Juliet” Laser is angio-neogenesis, the process in which new arteries and veins will appear in the vagina, allowing for more blood circulation and improved lubrication, meaning less pain during intercourse. With less pain and improved vaginal elasticity, sex becomes noticeably more enjoyable again.

The Erbium-Laser “Juliet” is treatment for:

Genital Atrophy- vaginal dryness, little lubrication

Painful Sexual Intercourse

Urinary Incontinence- involuntary urination

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is performed in three sessions, each taking approximately 15-20 minutes. Each session is scheduled every 4 to 6 weeks. The effects and results are progressive and begin working immediately. Results can last up to 2 to 3 years or more. The procedure does not require hospitalization or suspended activities, and you can resume sexual activity in 72 hours. The simple procedure can be combined with other therapies or surgeries, and is performed by a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics.

Prior to performing the treatment, there will be an initial consultation to answer any questions, explain anything you may not understand, or even evaluate other treatment options such as VAGINAL RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY or COSMETIC GENITAL SURGERY- more on these topics in my next writings.

Benefits of the “Juliet” Erbium-Laser

-Unlike CO2, Erbium-Laser has a greater affinity for water making it safer and classified as a second-generation laser.

-The technology is approved in Mexico by COFEPRIS.

-There is enough scientific evidence that treating vaginal laxity through technical therapy and ablation are effective.

-The technology is new in Tijuana, however doctors in Europe and the United States have been performing successful treatments for over 15 years.
