What is Juvederm Used For?

Have you heard about, Juvederm, the revolutionizing injectable that’s been rocking the world of cosmetic dermatology? Apart from taking the dermatology world by storm, Juvederm has become a patient’s favorite for being such an easy, efficient and hassle-free way of removing lines and wrinkles.  You’ve probably heard something about Juvederm, from a friend, celebrity or even a magazine. But, are you still a little confused about what exactly is Juvederm? When and where can you use Juvederm? What is Juvederm made of?

We’re here to answer all of your questions and explain, once and for all, what Juvederm is and why we love it so much!

 What is Juvederm used for?

Juvederm is a gel-like dermal filler that can be safely injected in your face in order to decrease facial wrinkles, lines, and folds as well as restore volume and tone to your face. This FDA approved dermal filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that humans naturally produce.

Due to the hyaluronic acid in the skin, people retain hydration and elasticity. In other words, we have hyaluronic acid to thank for keeping the skin young and fresh. With age, the body’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid slows down, leaving the skin more fragile to age and the elements. Naturally, it will lose elasticity and tone over time, resulting in saggy, droopy, thin, wrinkly skin.

Unlike Botox and other types of botulinum neurotoxins, which debilitate and immobilize the muscles responsible for certain wrinkles, dermal fillers fill folds of skin, replacing the natural hyaluronic acid the body has stopped producing.

Apart from treating lines, folds and static wrinkles, Juvederm can be used to lift cheeks, tighten the skin in the face and plump the lips.

Where can you use Juvederm?

Lower eyelids treated with fillers, to correct the tear trough area.

Juvederm can treat several areas of the face, and it usually depends on the results the patient is looking for. As a rule of thumb, Juvederm and other dermal fillers produce the best result when used to treat static wrinkles that appear as a result of the loss of natural elasticity and tone in the skin. These are some of the most popular uses:

Smile lines. Using Juvederm for smile lines helps by filling out the thin skin that has sagged on the outer corners of our lips. Juvederm can also help smooth out the wrinkles that form around our nose.

Lips. When Juvederm is used to plump up the lips, patients will see how efficient it is. By strategically injecting Juvederm, the doctor will naturally plump, enhance and delineate the lips, providing a sexier, more youthful pout.

Cheeks and cheekbones. The cheeks are one of the first areas of the face to visibly show the loss of natural collagen and hyaluronic acid. By injecting Juvederm, your surgeon or dermatologist will naturally restore the volume on your cheeks, removing years off your face.

Frown lines. When a patient has frown lines that are too deep, a combination of Botox and Juvederm will yield amazing results: smooth and wrinkle-free.

How long does Juvederm last?

Juvederm is not a permanent treatment, which means that depending on the aesthetic results you want, you might have to visit your Juvederm expert 1 to 3 times during the year. Exactly how long Juvederm lasts will depend on different factors, such as:

  • The type of Juvederm you get.
  • The area where you receive your Juvederm injections.
  • How fast your body metabolizes Juvederm.
  • The technique your doctor uses to inject Juvederm

In some cases, Juvederm amazing results last 4 months and in other cases, results can last up to 2 years.
