Post-Bariatric Plastic Surgery Services

Have you lost a substantial amount of weight, either with the help of bariatric surgery or by making healthy adjustments to your lifestyle habits? Are you disappointed to find that you still do not have the toned figure you deserve?

If so, VIDA Wellness and Beauty, a hospital in Mexico, can help. The talented CosMed plastic surgeons at VIDA have extensive experience performing post-bariatric plastic surgery to contour areas of the body that are plagued with loose skin and poor muscle tone following massive weight loss. In addition, VIDA Wellness and Beauty is home to many physicians and other health professionals that can help you stay on track with your nutrition, mental health, overall wellness and beauty goals.

What Are The Benefits of Post-Bariatric Surgery?

Massive fluctuations in weight often cause the skin to lose its elasticity, so it can no longer shrink back to a smaller size and shape once the excess weight has been lost. This can leave post-bariatric patients with loose excess skin that hangs off the body in folds.

Restores Tissue and Muscle Tone

Also, following substantial weight loss, some individuals find they have lost tissue and muscle tone, so they can no longer attain a firm, toned contour throughout certain areas of their bodies, no matter how often they perform strength-training and cardiovascular exercises.

When these developments occur, surgical intervention is necessary to eliminate excess skin and restore tissue and muscle tone throughout the treatment area. The VIDA / CosMed plastic surgeons perform upper body lift surgery to help patients achieve a svelte, firm profile throughout their upper bodies and lower body lift to help individuals achieve a tighter, toned contour throughout their lower bodies.

What Is Body Lift Surgery?

The terms “upper body lift” and “lower body lift” are umbrella terms used to describe a collection of post-weight loss plastic surgery procedures designed to tighten and tone areas throughout the upper or lower body, respectively. Although certain areas of the body are commonly included in body lift surgery, your CosMed plastic surgeon can customize your body lift procedure to treat the specific areas of your body that need improvement.

For instance, for patients needing extensive contouring throughout their entire lower bodies, lower body lift surgery can include abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery), lateral thigh lift and Brazilian butt lift surgery. For other patients requiring less extensive body contouring, the CosMed plastic surgeon may only include abdominoplasty and thigh lift surgery.

How Body Lift Surgery is Performed

Although body lift procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, we highly recommend that patients recuperate in our stylish recovery boutique, so they have access to 24-hour nursing care. Body lift procedures are performed under general anesthesia.

Depending on your unique treatment strategy, the details of your upper or lower body lift surgery may vary. To start the procedure, the plastic surgeon makes an incision, in the pattern chosen during your consultation. The surgeon may perform liposuction throughout the treatment area to eliminate any stubborn pockets of fat. He then excises the excess skin before repairing the supporting tissue structures and musculature with the use of permanent, internal stitches, which he strategically positions throughout the supporting structures. The stitches restore tone and hold the repaired tissues in place after surgery. The plastic surgeon re-drapes the residual skin before closing the external incisions with dissolvable or removable stitches.

What To Expect After Body Lift Surgery

Patients generally need to take about two weeks off from work. During this time, they should rest as much as possible and avoid vigorous activity, including exercising and heavy lifting. However, taking short walks around the house or recovery boutique is necessary to help prevent blood clots from forming.

The treatment area may be swollen, bruised, numb or sore. Although these symptoms are normal and will improve with time, it takes about 10 weeks for all residual swelling to resolve entirely and for the final results to become fully realized.
