If so, you’re not alone.

Before & After Chin Liposuction & Augmentation

If you’re tired of dealing with your double chin, it’s never too late to look into your options. With that in mind, let’s look at what you can expect from double chin surgery, and how it can be helpful.

Double Chin Surgery Pricing

Because double chin surgery varies from person to person as well as several different approaches, the costs can run the gamut. In the US, this ranges from $1,200 to almost $13,000.

Alternatively, here in Mexico, you can expect to pay normally about 40% less than you would in the United States.

What Causes a Double Chin?

There are things you can do on your own to reduce the appearance of a double chin, but it really depends on the factors in your health history that caused it in the first place. If it is caused by weight alone, losing that weight can help to reduce its appearance.

But, there are other factors that are harder to control, including:

    • Genetics
  • Genetics
  • Airway positioning
  • Anatomy

If your double chin is the result of any of the above, it can be harder to “get rid of it” through diet, weight loss, exercise, or other natural methods. Depending on what causes the extra fold in your chin, surgery may be the best option to get rid of it for good.

Liposuction Surgery for a Double Chin

One of the most common types of surgery to get rid of a double chin is liposuction. You’ve probably heard of this surgical procedure before when it comes to eliminating fat from the stomach, legs, etc. But, it works just as well on your chin. Because it’s such a common and widely-known procedure, more people are willing to undergo liposuction to get the results they want everywhere on their bodies.

So, what can you expect when it comes to liposuction on your chin?

The liposuction procedure itself is quite simple. A small incision is made just underneath your skin. Then, the fat from underneath the skin is simply sucked out through a tube. The result is a tighter, more toned-looking chin, jaw, and neck area. Depending on how much fat needs to be removed, a typical procedure takes anywhere from 1-2 hours.

Is Liposuction the Best Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for a Double Chin?

There are other procedures that can help to get rid of a double chin; besides chin liposuction, a patient may consider neck liposuction and neck lift procedures, or facelifts. Liposuction is the least invasive of these procedures. It only requires one small incision and a local anesthetic can be used, rather than having to go completely under for the surgery. Neck liposuction may also complement the impact of chin liposuction.

So, double chin liposuction is often the easiest and quickest solution to sculpting your chin. If there are a substantial amount of other problem areas of your face or neck you’re concerned with, you might consider procedures such as a facelift or neck lift. But, if your only focus is your chin, liposuction will give you the best results quickly.

Does Double Chin Liposuction Hurt?

Again, because only a small incision is made and a local anesthetic is used, liposuction on the chin is meant to be as painless as possible. You shouldn’t feel anything during the procedure itself, and any discomfort you feel afterward can be fixed with over-the-counter medication.

What Is the Recovery Time?

After your procedure, you should expect to see some light bruising and swelling for up to 14 days. However, the swelling should go down a bit each day, and any pain or discomfort you might feel should be completely gone in just a few days.

Some people have fully recovered in a much shorter period of time; anywhere from a few days to a week. It can depend on how much fat was sucked out, how susceptible you are to bruising, etc.

There are things you can do to improve your recovery and potentially speed up the healing time, including the way you sleep. Try sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated on two pillows for a week or two. If possible, don’t sleep on your side. It can be a bit uncomfortable and if you accidentally “bump” your chin, it could make the bruising and swelling last longer.

Even though the recovery time for complete healing can take up to two weeks, that doesn’t mean your life needs to be put on hold. Because only a local anesthetic is used when the surgery is performed, you can continue your daily activities almost right away after surgery. Just be careful about anything bumping against your chin or jaw for a few days.

Can Chin Fat Come Back?

One of the biggest concerns people have after double chin plastic surgery is whether the fold(s) will return. The good news? When liposuction is performed on the chin, the fat cells there are completely removed. As a result, they don’t grow back. Liposuction is meant to be a long-lasting procedure with results you can enjoy for years.

So, even if you gain weight or your genetics are what caused your double chin, you don’t have to worry about it returning once you’ve had liposuction. Depending on how much fat was there, you may experience a bit of skin sagging, which can be treated with a neck lift, but most people see tighter, more toned skin right away around their chin and jawline. You’ll see results right away, and even more so after the swelling goes down, and those results are meant to last.
