Your Complete Guide to Mommy Makeover Recovery

Once you’re done having kids, why not focus on yourself again? Mommy Makeovers help mothers look and feel gorgeous.  With pregnancy and childbirth, women see their bodies change, sometimes beyond their control. At VIDA, we know how frustrating it can be to see your body change and not find a way to lose some extra pounds, go back to having firm breasts, or tightening loose skin on your abdomen.

Most women get a Mommy Makeover to address concerns such as saggy or deflated breasts, loose skin in the abdomen, and drooping of the buttocks. You are not alone if you’ve reached a point where no workout or diet can effectively return your body to its pre-motherhood state.

But of course, if you’re a mom, you´re probably an expert at planning and anticipating everything! That is why we created a Mommy Makeover Recovery Guide to help you understand what you can expect after this ultra-popular procedure, how much time off you might need, and how to plan your post-op care at home.

Mommy Makeover recovery supplies

Below a quick list of things, you should get before or right after having the surgery. Be sure to check these off your to-do list.

Medications. This will all be prescribed by your surgeon: pain medication, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and ointments. Check with your surgeon so you can either buy them before or identify a pharmacy that can supply everything.

Compression garments. Only use medical quality compression garments and surgical bras. If getting a Brazilian Butt Lift, have a booty pillow ready.

First-aid supplies. Stock up on bandages, dressings, sponges, and gauze. It’s always a good idea to make a list and ask your surgeon for recommendations.

A friend or relative to help. The first days you won’t be feeling quite yourself. Enlist a friend to help you and help with the kids if needed.

Mommy Makeover Recovery Time

The exact amount of time you’ll need to recover after a Mommy Makeover will depend on the procedures you get. A Mommy Makeover is not a single surgery, rather a combination of cosmetic procedures designed specifically for you and your aesthetic goals.  The most popular surgeries that comprise a Mommy Makeover are Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, Breast Lift (with or without implants), and a Brazilian Butt Lift. Discuss with your surgeon if it’s possible to do the procedures you want in a single session or two.

Keep in mind that the recovery timeline is completely individual, it depends on how your body heals and the scope of the procedures you had. For example, a mommy who just had a Liposuction and BBL can expect a different recovery time to a mommy who had a full Tummy Tuck, BBL, and a Breast Lift. Let’s assume the mommy from our sample recovery timeline had all of her procedures done in a single session, here is what she can expect:

First 48 hours of Mommy Makeover Recovery.

Let us start by saying that during these first couple of days, you’ll need some help. Most of our mommies choose to stay the first-night post-op at our comfortable recovery boutique to spend that time under the care of our wonderful nurses. You’ll leave the hospital feeling a bit uncomfortable and you might notice numbness, swelling, and bruising in the areas treated. These are completely normal and will start to subside after 48 hours. Your surgeon will prescribe you pain medication to help you manage.  It’s best to avoid showering these first days to prevent moisture from getting into your incisions.

The first week of Mommy Makeover Recovery.

While swelling and bruising begin to subside at this point, you can still expect certain discomfort in the areas treated. If you had a Tummy Tuck or Breast Lift, you might feel tightness in those  areas. When it comes to a Brazilian Butt Lift,  you should avoid sitting down as much as possible.

You can definitely rest and recuperate at home, make sure to enlist help for simple things such as household chores, driving, and showering. The first week can still be tough, particularly if you cannot wait to show off your body, but it’ll be over before you know it!

Two weeks and beyond of Mommy Makeover Recovery.

Mommies will be happy to learn that after the 2-week mark, they are usually cleared to resume activities as normal, as long as they avoid lifting heavy objects and performing strenuous physical activities. You are encouraged to take several walks throughout the day. Some of the Mommy Makeover procedures require you to wear specific compression garments. After weeks 4 or 5, these are a thing of the past! Going into 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure, you’ll start feeling incredibly better. At this time mommies will be able to appreciate the results of their Mommy Makeover since any swelling and bruising left are minimal.
