Nose Job in Tijuana

Are you considering a rhinoplasty in Mexico? If you’re unhappy with the size or shape of your nose, you may feel as though it is the only thing that other people notice about you. At VIDA Wellness and Beauty, we realize that your nose, a single facial feature, has the ability to define your entire facial appearance.

Fortunately, our board-certified plastic surgeons have extensive experience performing rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, to correct the size, shape, or structure of the nose, for a more harmonious look.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty Surgery in Tijuana

Some patients pursue rhinoplasty procedures to correct the size of their excessively large or wide noses. Other individuals seek nose surgery to improve a hump on the bridge of their nose, a hook at the end of it, or overall asymmetry. Still others suffer from structural issues that cause chronic breathing problems, such as a deviated septum, or want to correct birth defects.

If you can relate to any of these issues or simply dislike the way your nose looks in proportion to your other facial features, undergoing rhinoplasty in Tijuana with VIDA Wellness and Beauty’s plastic surgeons can help.

What Can Rhinoplasty in Mexico Achieve?

Commonly referred to as a “nose job,” rhinoplasty is a way to achieve a preferred facial appearance through nose reshaping.

Rhinoplasty procedures rank among the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the United States. Nearly 220,000 rhinoplasties are performed annually, making it the most common facial plastic surgery procedure.

However, a nose job can also be performed safely and effectively in Tijuana, Mexico, just across the border from San Diego. At VIDA Wellness and Beauty Center in Tijuana, rhinoplasty is a commonly performed medical procedure.

Rhinoplasty can treat a variety of cosmetic nasal issues, such as:

  • Nose size in relation to facial balance
  • Nose width at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils
  • Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
  • Nasal tip that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned, or hooked
  • Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry
Nose Shapes & Rhinoplasty Options

As the American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes, the focus of rhinoplasty is moving toward things like fixing a crooked nose, removing humps in the nasal bridge, and fixing asymmetry while still maintaining a person’s ethnic identity.

By reshaping the nasal structures, including bone, cartilage, and skin, a cosmetic surgeon can help achieve one or more of the following with a nose job:

  • Straighten a crooked nose
  • Smooth a prominent bump in the bridge of the nose
  • Reduce the length of an over-protruding nasal tip
  • Refine the size of a bulbous nasal tip
  • Narrow a nose that is too wide for the face
  • Reduce the size of a nose that is too large
  • Restore symmetry to the nose following injury
  • Improve breathing difficulties by opening up blocked nasal passages/deviated septum

Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery Techniques

There are two main rhinoplasty methods: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

open versus closed nose job

During your Tijuana rhinoplasty consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine your nasal structure, listen to your aesthetic concerns and recommend whether the open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty approach is best suited to meet your unique needs.

Open Rhinoplasty

The open rhinoplasty technique involves making an incision on the strip of skin separating your nostrils called the “columella.”

With open rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon has the optimum visibility during the nose surgery and, thus, the most control over the overall appearance of the nose.

Closed Rhinoplasty

The closed rhinoplasty technique, also known as the scarless nose job, involves making an incision on the interior of the nose, providing patients with well-concealed scars. In addition, the closed technique generally allows for a quicker recovery than with the open approach.

However, with the closed technique, the surgeon has less visibility, and therefore control, during the surgical procedure.

The Rhinoplasty “Nose Job” Procedure

Nose surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, under general anesthesia. (Though it is an outpatient procedure, out-of-towners seeking rhinoplasty in Tijuana, Mexico are welcome to stay at our comfortable recovery boutique through the healing process.)

With both the open and closed approach to rhinoplasty, after general anesthesia is induced, the surgeon uses an incision in the nasal tissues to gain access to the underlying nasal structure, which is made of cartilage and bone.

The rhinoplasty surgeon then sculpts, reduces, or uses grafting techniques to augment the cartilage and bone to improve the structure, symmetry, shape, angle, width, or size of the nose, or to correct defects such as a deviated septum.

Once he is satisfied with the newly shaped nose, he closes the incisions with sutures and dresses the treated area with bandages and an overlying splint to protect the delicate nasal tissues during the healing process.

How Long Is the Rhinoplasty Procedure?

The standard operating time for simple rhinoplasty surgery is 1 to 2 hours. If you are having more extensive cosmetic surgery or work done on other facial features, the length of the procedure will increase. For example, the number of changes to your nose will affect surgery time.

Another factor that may result in a shorter or longer rhinoplasty is the method: open or closed. A rhinoplasty that is both functional and cosmetic will also take a bit longer than the standard 1 hour.

If you’d like to know how long your rhinoplasty surgery will take, talk to your plastic surgeons so they can provide an accurate estimate.

Rhinoplasty Risks

When patients ask how dangerous a nose job is, our answer is always the same: no more dangerous than any other surgery and as safe as any surgery performed by a certified professional.

By going to a board-certified plastic surgeon, you are making sure your rhinoplasty is safe.

With that being said, it’s important to consider that all surgeries have certain risks to consider. For rhinoplasty, please consider the following surgery risks and complications:

  • Excessive bleeding
  • Anesthesia risks
  • Infection
  • Poor wound healing and/or scarring
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Constant numbness in the nose area
  • Need for revision surgery
  • Skin discoloration

Does a Rhinoplasty Hurt?

When planning a rhinoplasty, patients are usually anxious about how much it hurts. Your surgeon cannot tell you, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much a nose job will hurt you because everyone’s body and pain tolerance is different.

However, there are a few important things you should know about rhinoplasty and how much it hurts:

  • The actual rhinoplasty procedure does not hurt. Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will make sure you are relaxed and experience no pain during the surgery.
  • The recovery stage of rhinoplasty is more uncomfortable than painful. Before heading home to rest and recuperate, your surgeon will prescribe you pain medication and will give you extra instructions to minimize pain during the rhinoplasty recovery process.
  • The most common complaint from patients is not the pain after rhinoplasty, but rather the uncomfortable feeling of having a stuffy nose for 2 to 3 days during recovery time.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

The recovery period for rhinoplasty is one to two weeks. During the initial few days after surgery, you should keep your head elevated, even while resting or sleeping.

Your nose may feel as though it is congested, and you may have to breathe through your mouth until the stuffiness subsides. Your nose may also be sore, swollen, or bruised, with bruising potentially extending into the eye area, contributing to the look of “black eyes.”

However, these are normal symptoms that will slowly improve over the course of about 10 days.

After the initial recovery period, nose job patients can expect to take 4 to 6 weeks before their bones are completely healed and the swelling is almost gone. Patients will be able to resume all of their normal activities, including exercise and strenuous activities 12 weeks after plastic surgery.
